Quotes of Support

Shannon Hendrycks

I would like to show my support in the nomination of Evan Cooper as OSSTF District 25 Membership Services Officer.  I have known Evan professionally for over 10 years.  I am very impressed with his hard work ethic and dedication to his teaching profession, his fellow colleagues and the OSSTF.  Evan is always professional and discrete when working with others and is well respected by teaching staff as well as other education professionals and administration.  While his knowledge is expansive he continues to embrace new learning opportunities.  I have seen many staff look to Evan for advice on both OSSTF and other professional matters and have always been encouraged and inspired by his perspective.

I would like to show my support in the nomination of Evan Cooper as OSSTF District 25 Membership Services Officer. Evan has been actively involved with OSSTF throughout his entire career (which is a long time... he looks good for his advanced age!) and many of the positions that he has held involve dealing with conflict (bargaining team member and Branch President, for example).  Throughout all of the negotiations, all of the governments and all of the administrations he has dealt with, Evan has managed to maintain his calm, his composure, his commitment and his sense of humor.  Evan is a strong advocate for the members of OSSTF, and we are going to need that desperately in the near future.

Evan is uniquely qualified for the role of MSO because of his work as a guidance counselor.  The position will bring him into contact with members who are in very difficult positions physically, emotionally and financially, and that contact can have a very serious toll on all of the people involved.  As a guidance counselor, Evan has developed excellent coping strategies that allow him to help and comfort people without his own mental health being compromised.

When Evan mentioned to me that he was thinking about running for the position, I knew he would have my vote, even though I don't know who else is throwing their hat in the ring.  That is strong praise coming from me, as I tend to be a very wishy-washy person.

Evan Cooper's leadership, experience, passion, and commitment to District 25 make him the standout candidate for the role of Membership Services Officer.  Evan has worked tirelessly for us a a member of the Collective Bargaining Committee for many years and has a broad understanding of our Federation and the work we do.  Recently he has shared some of his expertise through workshops at various sites outlining the role of the Department Head.  As an accomplished leader and determined defender of social justice, Evan will support and bolster our members' needs in the face of renewed government attacks on education.  I urge you to support Evan as our Membership Services Officer.

The next few years will confront us with unprecedented challenges for our membership - both in keeping teaching jobs and in enduring a constant government assault to our profession.  We need leaders with a calm demeanor but unwavering conviction to help navigate forward.  Evan's longstanding contributions to OSSTF, both as a local branch activist and on the unit executive, in my mind, give him the skill set we need.  I am happy to endorse him as my candidate for Membership Services Officer.
